Felicia and the Lost Cubs

My last blog post described how Felicia was seen without her cubs.  No one can be certain of the reason they became separated.  Our friend, Bernie Scates, the most dedicated grizzly bear watcher and photographer that I have ever known provides some insight.

Bernie observed a large boar following Felicia for the better part of two days.  Obviously, she could not return to her cubs with the boar constantly pursuing her.  Somehow she managed to elude the male grizzly and was seen leading one of her cubs out of the area…

As sad as it seems, the survival rate for bear cubs in their first year is 50%.  If this cub makes it through its first year the odds will slightly increase…

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
