Conowingo Dam Eagles, Second Visit

In anticipation of beautiful weather and the energy generating turbines running for several hours we headed to the Susquehanna River for a second attempt at eagle photographs.  What a disappointment to arrive just as the turbines were shutting down.  Even though we had called the toll free number, 888-457-4076, before we left Frederick by the time we arrived the recording had been changed reflecting the new schedule.

There were a number of other photographers disappointed by the change as well...

The crowd was even thicker on the lower deck near the turbine discharge...

Don't be intimidated by the number of people if you go, one can always find a spot to stand.  The birds circle overhead in random fashion and everyone can get in on the action.
When the turbines shut down the river looked more like a lake than the great Chesapeake tributary that it is.  Only a few eagles flew by during our stay...

One decided to land in the trees behind the parking lot and permitted me to obtain a few photos...

For those of us old enough to remember when spotting an eagle was a rare and noteworthy event even a slow day at Conowingo Dam is a privilege to be cherished.
