Hummingbired, Wood Duck, Wet Fawn, and More

I have seen a lot of Hummingbirds this summer but most of them are quickly flying from flower to flower and don't make very good photo subjects.  Finally, one happened to land near my location and I managed to snap one photo before it flew away...

A little farther on I spotted this hawk perched on a limb looking for breakfast...

Most of the Wood Ducks that were in our area have scattered.  This female has a broken left wing which will prevent here from migrating and leave her vulnerable to predators...

Early one morning I came across this wet fawn.  It was probably hiding in the dew covered weeds before coming out to eat...

The deer in the following photos are shedding their red summer coats.  Soon they will be a sleek gray color as their winter coat fills in...

 

Even though archery season for deer has already started, many fawns still display their spots...

Some are still nursing, even though weaned and able to feed themselves...

 

This fawn is hanging on even as the doe tries to walk away...

 

There are often disputes in these family units.  Here, a doe delivers a kick to a young buck to remind him of his place in the group...

 

 

Please remember that you have until September 27 to comment on the Whitetail Deer Management Plan for the Monocacy Battlefield.  When that plan is implemented opportunities for deer photos such as these will be all but lost.
