Which Fox Den To Photograph?

Knowing the location two red fox dens is not something that happens often.  The first den, near my house but far from a safe parking spot, holds five kits.  It is on the edge of a corn field and in a short time the corn will be too high to see the den...

The second den has produced photo opportunities for me for the last 3 years and I am able to get much closer to the kits...

On another day I was able to get even closer and observe and photograph from less than ten yards away.  In the first photos the kit is emerging from the den...

They accept my presence without alarm...

While sniffing around this one found some scat left by his sibling or himself...

Judging from his expression he did not seem to like his discovery...

He quickly began digging in the hard ground...

Failing to make a hole suitable for burying the scat he disappeared back into the den...

These kits will soon be large enough to leave the den and I will be left to wonder if a new litter will appear next Spring.
