Water Loving Mammals

Once again I find myself with more photos of the local wildlife that live along small streams in central Maryland.  I only snapped a few photos of the beavers that I see almost daily.  They rarely come out of the water during daylight hours and this was my only chance for photos of more than just a head in the water...

The most common water lover that I have been seeing lately is the mink.  We are in the middle of their mating season, which probably explains why I have been seeing them so often...

Besides swimming from one side of the creek to the other, I often see them prowling the bank searching for prey...

The third water loving mammal that I have seen recently is the muskrat.  I photographed one in the same location about a week ago.  It may have been the same one.  Muskrats in this area need to be especially cautious because they are the favorite prey of mink...

Thanks for letting me share these interesting animals with you.
