Recent Arrivals And Recent Sightings...

If you have been following my blog for very long you know that there is seldom a rhyme or reason to my posts.  I start out early each morning looking for subjects to photograph and rely greatly on luck to lead me to opportunities.  Yesterday I was very fortunate to come upon this Bald Eagle perched in a tree beside the Monocacy River...


I wish I had a longer lens but I am still grateful for the opportunity to photograph this beautiful bird.

This Canada Goose was not as elusive as the eagle and allowed me to approach closely...


His friends were cooperative as well...


The Lilypons Water Gardens is a birders paradise and I found these male Red-winged Blackbirds singing their hearts out for mates that have not yet arrived...







I also spotted this Killdeer looking for a nesting site...


Waterways like this are one reason the Lilypons is such a bird magnet...


While traveling a remote country road I came upon these Whitetail Deer...


They are a little easier to see with the lens zoomed out to 400 mm...


And they are MUCH easier to see when they come out into the open like this cooperative yearling...


My route took me along the banks of the Monocacy River once more where I found these Common Mergansers fishing...



A small stream provided an opportunity to photograph a Great Blue Heron and a Mallard drake...




This male Cardinal provided a burst of color in the otherwise dreary landscape...


This morning started out overcast and cloudy but things improved when I heard the familiar calls of a Great Horned Owl.  After we called back and forth for a few minutes he flew into view...


Not the best photograph as recorded by the camera but, by cropping and making some adjustments in Photoshop, I ended up with this final version...


My little buddy, the Screech Owl, was in his familiar spot to bid me good morning...

    Your white-headed eagle is high up on my list of birds I want to meet, send her over to me in Norway :-)
