Flying Mammal, Roosting Bird And Flowing Ice

I left the house before sunrise yesterday with the temperatures in the mid 20's and hoping for the best.  None of my targeted species of mink, beaver or raccoon were visible along the creek.  One thing that did catch my eye was the ice formations that had formed in areas were the current was not too swift...


This frozen pool bore evidence of an animal trying to venture on ice that could not bear its weight...


I decided to visit the LilyPons Water Gardens to see what might be there.  This ice formation in a frozen pond was one of the first things I noticed...


And then, there were the geese...





These geese were content to walk on the water instead of swimming or flying away...


I also saw this egret decoy.  I'm not sure if he was just there for decoration or to entice real egrets...


On my return trip I came upon these black vultures...




They finally had enough of being photographed...



As the day warmed up I spotted a very  unusual sight for mid February, a Brown Bat catching insects just above the surface of the water...



And finally, a series of photos of a screech owl withdrawing into his hole.
