Great Horned Owl

The opportunity to see great horned owls during the day doesn't happen very often.  When I heard crows making a ruckus I thought they might be antagonizing a red-tailed hawk, so I was happily surprised when this owl glided overhead...

The owl landed and seemed at ease...

Even when the crows arrived and continued their assault...

The ultimate insult must have been when a diminutive sharp-shinned hawk joined the fray and caused the owl to depart...

A few days later I witnessed crows once again harassing Great Horned Owls in the same location...

It is well known that crows don't tolerate hawks or owls, and seem to make a sport of trying to make them abandon their locale...

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
