WILDLIFE CAN BE HARD TO FIND

Compared to the arid and open landscape of the American west, the east coast can seem like a rain forest. Vegetation is thick and lush, providing cover for mammals and birds. Fortunately, the trail cameras on duty in our yard provide assurance that the wild critters are still around...

While having wild turkeys in the yard is pretty cool, the most excitement is generated by the coyotes...

I have heard it said that coyotes will cause fox populations to drop, but that does not seem to be the case in our area...

Surprisingly, the feral cat numbers remain high...

Ther are plenty of skunks around, too...

Other critters, too...

Many will say that coyotes will decimate the deer population, but we have more deer than ever...

I don't claim to be a wildlife expert but I do believe mantra of "shoot them on sight" is just plain wrong.  There seems to be plenty of room for all of nature's critters to co-exist. At least there is on our little 2.5 acres.

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.

  1. The folks around here that think eastern coyotes will wipe out deer, rabbits and other species they prefer don't know what they're talking about. It's pretty well established that coyotes have self-limiting reproduction and can't eliminate their prey -- the coyotes would then starve. Unfortunately, the coyotes here don't impact the feral cat population much if at all.
