Ghostly Hunter in the Fog

 


Four days ago we had a dense fog that limited visibility greatly.  As I peered into the woods I spotted a barred owl perched low to the ground and watching intently for prey...


 I was surprised that it tolerated my presence as I moved slightly to get a better viewing position...


The fog slowly lifted allowing for more detail to emerge...


Time spent in the presence of these beautiful birds is always a special experience.  I felt especially grateful to see this one emerge from the fog...


The spider web attached to its tail feathers made me think it must have roosted in this location all night.

    I think the first and third pics. would make pretty post cards shrouded in the fog. They are all beautiful but something about the first and third pics are special.. Great job Steve

    Great photos. Most barred owls seem to be rather unafraid of humans, in contrast to great horned owls which seem to be much more wary.
