What Happened to the Cubs??

Our most recent ride to Togwotee Pass to photograph Felicia (Grizzly # 863) and the cubs ended with disappointment.  The sow was present but the cubs were no where to be seen…

Many things could have happened to the cubs; the two most likely scenarios are that they were struck by a passing vehicle, or that they were killed by a male grizzly…

One other possibility is that Felicia had sent the cubs up a tree when the boar came around.  The sow, which is so tolerant of humans, was possibility so traumatized by the hazing (loud horn blaring and a popper being fired) by the game warden that she abandoned the cubs in terror…

We will likely never know what happened to the cubs…

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.

  1. I've also read and seen other bear posts in which cubs are often drowned in river crossings.
