Fall Birds Close To Home


I can't begin to count the number of times that birds have made a photo outing worthwhile. I am always receptive to wildlife of any type, and many times birds are all that I find.  The green heron (above) was near the Catoctin Creek Nature Center and Park.

 I was slowly driving on a rural road when I spotted a barred owl looking for  a meal...

I got as close as I dared and took these images from my vehicle...

Robins are gathering in large flocks and feeding on seasonal fruit.  The robin in the next image has it's eye on the prize, bright red berries...









This young red-tailed hawk was pursuing a small critter in the grass...



I still find the occasional warbler...



This house finch was feasting on tiny seeds...



A kestrel hovers...

Before diving on a potential meal...

Most recently, I found this screech owl snoozing...

The sound of the shutter caused it to peek...

Just as I was leaving, it took a better look to find the source of it's annoyance...
