November Is A Magic Time

November is long awaited by deer hunters and photographers alike.  This is the month when elusive whitetail bucks throw caution to the wind and become visible during daylight hours.  One of my favorite places to photograph bucks is the Monocacy National Battlefield located just south of Frederick.  I was watching the edge of a patch of woods this morning when this buck suddenly appeared hot on the trail of a doe...

The majority of does come into estrus at the same time creating a chaotic situation in areas with large deer populations...

Even small bucks have a chance to mate with so many does available.  It is not uncommon to watch a field and see three or more bucks each chasing different does back and forth...

The buck in the next photos appears to have exhausted himself in the pursuit of does...

The next buck was on private property where it was searching for a potential mate...

Be especially careful driving this month and next as the deer activity will be heightened at all times of the day and night.  Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
