Fun Loving, Funny Otters

North American River Otters are widely spread across the country but I have never found any that would tolerate humans as well as the ones that live in Jackson Hole.  Our first encounter was with this family of six. I could only manage to get four in a photo at the same time...

We watched as they chased each other through the weeds, into the water and back out again...

At the wildlife viewing turnout on Moose-Wilson Road I found this lone otter swimming...

I watched it for some time as it swam from one end of the impoundment to the other in pursuit of trout...

In Pacific Creek we watched as a mother otter taught her young to search for food by turning over rocks. It was interesting to observe them as they moved from shallow to deeper water and even onto shore...

These last two photos were taken at a distance of nearly 300 yards. I first spotted the otter rolling in the sand and scampering about...

As we were preparing to leave, it seemed to wave "goodbye"...

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
