The Eastern Fox Squirrel is huge compared to most gray squirrels. Although they are not "rare" here in Maryland, I encounter them infrequently and always enjoy an opportunity to observe and photograph one. This one crossed a gravel road, paused for a quick scan for danger, and then dashed across the open field to the next stand of woods. Not long ago I observed a Redtailed Hawk diving on one in this same field. Perhaps he remembers his close get away...
After making it to the woods he scampers up a tree before continuing on, looking for fallen nuts to store for his the winter to come...
