Canada Goose Goslings

The Canada Geese are beginning to bring forth their young ones.  I recently had an interesting chance to watch their activity at Lilypons...

These four goslings were following  their parents around the property mimicking their every move...

Until one of them either fell, or jumped, into a pool used to raise aquatic plants...

It didn't seem like a big deal until the other geese began to move away and the little one in the pool could not get out...

He tried and tried...

When it got tired it would swim for a while...

Then try again to get out...

Meanwhile, the parents are calling for the gosling to hurry along, and the gosling was answering and trying to oblige...

Finally, he got enough traction to heave himself out of the pool...

As soon as the gosling was out, it headed straight for its' mother...

It appeared to be telling her all about the frightening experience that it had just been through...

I saw this family group on the following day and all of the goslings were staying close to the parents.  It seems the lesson was well learned.

Thanks for visiting, and come back soon.

  1. Some dramatic shots here, Steve. I enjoy your photos and have been enjoying Sarah's western photos as well. You are really getting a variety of birds.

    1. Thanks, Willard. Often birds save the day, especially now that foliage is out, Looking forward to a visit to Wyoming to see Sarah this summer.
