A Pair Of Pileated Woodpeckers

Pileated Woodpeckers have always been difficult for me to photograph, mainly because of their shy and secretive nature.  I was delighted to find this cooperative pair yesterday morning.  I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I do...


The red mustache on this one indicates that it is a male...



 
This female searches for insects in trees both large and small...

    Love the first and third photos, Steve. It most looks like he's posing for you in the first one. We have several of these beautiful birds living in the woods around our house, but I've never been able to get a photo of them. I think bird photography is the most difficult kind there can be, with such fast-moving targets.
