Wild Turkeys

The deep snow has brought some Wild Turkeys closer to roads in order to find food left from corn harvesting.  I recently came across a group of eighteen such birds, mostly gobblers, and was able to obtain a few photos...

Mixed groups of gobbles contain "jakes" or young of the year birds with short beards...

And mature birds called "long beards" or "boss" gobblers by some hunters...

In a few short weeks the turkey woods will be ringing with gobbles as the males try to attract females to mate with.  An exciting time to be out whether one is a hunter or a photographer.

    1. Thanks, Willard. I love to photograph turkeys. I wish I could get closer more often but I am grateful when I do.
