SURE SIGN OF SPRING

A sure sign of spring is when critters get busy preparing a "nursery" for the arrival of young. While parked near a small creek I saw a beaver gathering dried grass...

Beaver dens with young can be tough to find but are rewarding when one gets lucky.

The largest beaver in this family weighs an estimated 60 pounds or more...

The heaviest beaver on record weighed 110 pounds and was from the Iron River in Wisconsin. It was thought to be 20 years old.

Beavers are interesting to observe but can pose problems for landowners by damaging trees, blocking culverts and undermining stream banks.

Local mink are also busy preparing...

At this time of year, the males can be seen chasing females...

Others are hunting. Mink seem to always be on the search for food...

Even the muskrats are preparing for new litters of young...

I hope you are seeing signs of spring where you live, too.

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
