2018 Deer Rut Follow Up

Since my last blog post I have seen mostly small bucks.  The deer pictured above was taken on a frosty  morning before sunrise.  I think that the larger bucks are staying close to does that are almost ready to breed...

What I have been seeing are smaller bucks, searching for a doe that has not been claimed by an older buck...

There is a spot near our house that allows me to observe deer that are moving and crossing a small stream...

This crossing gets lovely light early in the morning, making it one of my favorite locations...

This buck and two small does were found at the Catoctin Creek Park and Nature Center near Jefferson, MD...

Large buck sightings may increase over the next couple of weeks as the dominant bucks begin searching for unbred does...

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
