Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep in Alberta, Canada

Up until the final days of our visit to Canada we had only only seen female bighorn sheep and their young.  Driving between Jasper and Maligne Lake I came upon this beautiful ram...

Possibly the largest, and certainly the closest, that I have ever seen...

A few miles down the road was this ram with a back itch...

We saw several young rams during our stay near Jasper...

This group of older rams were slowing traffic as they walked for several miles on the road...

Much like the bison in Yellowstone, these rams grew up learning that the paved roads made for quick and easy movement from one spot to another...

I was able to take some close ups as they walked within a few feet of our stopped car...

Like mountain goats, the sheep have soft hooves that are adapted to clinging to their steep mountain habitat...

Thanks for visiting, be well, and come back soon.
