Birds Of Late July

Combine a water source and a little patience and usually the result will be a bird sighting or two.  This week I was fortunate to see two "firsts" for me.  The first photo is a Yellow-throated Warbler that only allowed a quick photo before  moving on.  The second is an immature Yellow-crowned Night Heron that was more cooperative and allowed me time for several photographs...



A common sight on local streams is the Wood Duck.  The females lack the bold coloration of the males but they are beautiful in their own right...

These "young of the year" ducklings have found a log to rest on...

The stream is home for many Great Blue Herons...



Green Herons are common, but not as numerous...

One morning this female Common Merganser, or could it be a Red-breasted variety, swam by...


The next day she brought her friend along for company...

A Wild Turkey hen, and her seven poults, made an unmowed field home for several days not far from our house...




This Gray Catbird landed close by and then bade farewell...
